Shepard Fairey has been a Hublot ambassador since 2018. That year the brand released the Big Bang Meca-10 Shepard Fairey as part of its "Hublot Loves Art" program. A second model, the Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey, followed on March 22, 2021.

The artist

Shepard Fairey is an American street artist, painter and graphic designer. He created the Barack Obama "Hope" poster and founded the OBEY clothing brand. His work is often political, and he was closely involved in designing both watches.

Design and details

• Big Bang Meca-10 Shepard Fairey (2018): 45 mm case in Texalium (carbon fiber with an aluminum layer) with engraved patterns, 100 m water resistance. Skeletonized dial with Fairey's "Star Gear" logo at 3 o'clock, which turns as the mainspring unwinds and shows a red dot when the watch is nearly out of power. In-house hand-wound HUB1201 with a 10-day power reserve. Grey or blue straps with embossed Fairey designs.
• Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey (2021): 45 mm case and bezel in black-brushed titanium, engraved with a mandala that continues on the sapphire dial. Skeleton automatic chronograph HUB1155, 42-hour power reserve, "Star Gear" at the center of the hands, black rubber strap. Part of the proceeds supported Amnesty International.

Edition size and release

The Meca-10 came as 100 pieces in grey and 100 in blue, at a launch price of $28,300. Hublot sold the 2021 Classic Fusion as a limited edition in boutiques and its online store. Hublot did not state the number on its page; South African magazine Wanted reported 50 pieces.

Hublot Shepard Fairey on the secondary market

Buyers check which model and color you have, then look for the full set: box, warranty card and the original Fairey-embossed straps. Texalium and brushed titanium show scratches, and engravings should not be softened by polishing. A Meca-10 that has been serviced by Hublot, with papers, is easier to sell.

How to check a Shepard Fairey Hublot

• Wind the Meca-10 and watch the Star Gear at 3 o'clock. It should turn as power runs down. On many copies it is printed and does not move.
• The 2021 model should carry reference 525.NX.0137.RX.SHF21 on the papers.
• Edition number and serial on the case back must match the warranty card.
