Reverso Tribute Enamel Hidden Treasures at a glance

The Reverso was born in 1931 with a case that flips over to protect the crystal. In 2021, for its 90th anniversary, Jaeger-LeCoultre used that hidden back as a canvas. The Hidden Treasures trio shows famous paintings in grand feu enamel on the reverse side, behind a guilloché enamel dial.

The artist

Each watch reproduces one painting:

  • Gustave Courbet, View of Lake Léman (1876): ref. Q39334C2, misty grey-blue dial with herringbone guilloché.
  • Vincent van Gogh, Sunset at Montmajour (1888): ref. Q39334V1, green dial with sunray guilloché.
  • Gustav Klimt, Portrait of a Lady (1917): ref. Q39334K1, green dial with barleycorn guilloché.

The painters are not collaborators. The work is by JLC's own enamellers, who copy each painting at miniature scale.

Design and details

All three use an 18k white gold Reverso Tribute case of 45.6 × 27.4 mm, 9.73 mm thick, water resistant to 30 m, on a black alligator strap. Inside is the hand-wound calibre 822/2 with hours and minutes and a 42-hour power reserve. Three crafts meet on one watch: guilloché and grand feu enamel on the dial, and miniature painting in grand feu enamel on the closed caseback.

In July 2021 JLC added a Reverso Tribute Enamel with Hokusai's woodblock print Kirifuri Waterfall on the back and a green wave guilloché dial, also limited to 10 pieces.

Edition size and release

Each of the three models is limited to 10 pieces, so only 30 watches exist in total. Each piece takes many hours of enamel work, which explains the small numbers.

Reverso Tribute Enamel Hidden Treasures on the secondary market

With only ten pieces per painting, these watches rarely come up for sale. Buyers look at the enamel first: any chip, crack or scratch on the painted back or the dial is very hard to repair. A complete set with JLC box, certificate and original strap and buckle is clearly preferred.

How to check a Reverso Hidden Treasures

  • The reference (Q39334C2, Q39334V1 or Q39334K1) must match the painting on the back and the dial color.
  • The case is white gold and the movement is the hand-wound calibre 822/2.
  • Real grand feu enamel has deep, glassy color. Printed or decal backs look flat under magnification.
  • Beware of standard Reverso watches with added painted backs; ask JLC to confirm the serial number.
