Swatch x Louvre at a glance

The Swatch x Louvre collection was presented in autumn 2019. It was the third chapter of Swatch's Museum Journey series, after the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid in 2018. Four watches take works from the Musée du Louvre in Paris and give them a modern, humorous twist.

The collaboration

The Louvre is the most visited museum in the world. For this series Swatch did not simply print the paintings. It changed them with a wink:

  • Lisa Masquée: Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa wearing an orange mask, on a mirrored dial.
  • Hairyblue Mary: Marie de' Medici from a full-length portrait by Frans Pourbus the Younger, with royal blue hair.
  • Henrytheforce: Henry IV of France from the matching Pourbus portrait, wearing red hipster glasses.
  • Flèche d'Amour: the cupid from Guido Reni's The Abduction of Helen, with a red heart marking the day to fall in love.

Design and details

The four models are colorful plastic quartz Swatches with the artwork on the dial and strap. The Lisa Masquée is easy to spot because of its mirror dial with a "YlOUvre" wordplay. The Flèche d'Amour uses its red heart as the date indicator.

Edition size and release

No edition size was announced. At launch the watches cost about 75 to 80 euros and were offered on Swatch's online shop. Later, in 2023, Swatch made a watch with the Louvre Abu Dhabi for its Art Journey collection, based on Hokusai's Great Wave. That is a different museum and a different series.

Swatch x Louvre on the secondary market

The Lisa Masquée is the most recognizable of the four, thanks to the Mona Lisa. A complete set of all four models is more interesting to collectors than a single watch. Buyers look for unworn pieces with their original packaging and a strap that is not cracked or faded.

How to check a Swatch x Louvre

  • Compare the dial with official images: the mask, blue hair, red glasses or red heart must be there.
  • Check that the date on the Flèche d'Amour works.
  • Look for clean printing and the Louvre name on the watch or packaging.
