Cyrus Genève: origins and founding

Cyrus was founded in 2010 in the Geneva region. The name comes from Cyrus the Great, the ancient Persian king, and the collection names Kuros, Klepcys and Kambys follow the same theme. The goal from the start was modern-looking watches with complicated, purpose-built movements.

Founders and family

Brand material from 2013 names the founders as two cousins, Julien and Laurent Lecamp. Later profiles describe the owners as a Swiss entrepreneurial family with a background in luxury brands. The key watchmaker is Jean-François Mojon, whose company Chronode in Le Locle develops and builds the Cyrus movements. Mojon had worked for IWC, Harry Winston and HYT before.

Cyrus Genève history and milestones

  • 2010: launch of the brand with the Kuros chronograph.
  • About 2011–2012: the Klepcys, with disc time display, retrograde date and a 3D moon phase.
  • 2013: the Kambys, a hand-wound watch with twin barrels and a power reserve shown on three cylinders. A unique Kambys was made for the Only Watch charity auction in 2013.
  • 2017: Walter Ribaga became head of the company.
  • 2020: Klepcys GMT Retrograde with a new automatic manufacture movement.

Famous Cyrus Genève models

  • Klepcys – the main line, including Moon, Alarm, Chronograph, GMT and the Vertical Tourbillon, whose tourbillon cage turns on a vertical axis.
  • Kambys – tonneau-shaped, hand-wound, with a 7-day power reserve.
  • Kuros – the first model, a large chronograph.

Movements and technique

Cyrus movements are developed and produced in-house with Chronode, the Le Locle manufacture founded by Mojon in 2005, in which the Cyrus group became a shareholder. The Klepcys Moon has two patents for its linear time display and large retrograde calendar. The Kambys uses calibre 7778. The hand-wound calibre CYR625 in the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon has 344 parts and more than 100 hours of power reserve.

Cyrus Genève today

Cyrus is an independent high-end brand with a registered office in Plan-les-Ouates near Geneva and production in Le Locle. Watchonista reported output of about 600 watches a year. Most models are limited editions. In 2026 a five-piece Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon Jasper was listed at CHF 150,000 before tax.

Cyrus Genève prices on the pre-owned market

Cyrus watches are rare, and the pre-owned market is small. That cuts both ways: buyers are hard to find, and prices often end up well below retail, as with most young independent brands. Complicated pieces such as the Vertical Tourbillon draw the most interest. Box, papers, the original strap and a recent service make a sale much easier.

How to recognise a genuine Cyrus Genève

Cyrus watches are made in small numbers and are rarely copied. Check that the caseback shows the reference and the limited-edition number, and that these match the warranty card. The movement should match the model: a Kambys should be hand-wound with a long power reserve, a Klepcys should show its disc time display. When in doubt, ask the brand or an authorized dealer.
