DeWitt: origins and founding
DeWitt was founded in 2003 by Jérôme de Witt in Geneva. From the start it focused on high-end complicated watches, which the brand calls "Master Complications". Its workshops are in Meyrin, in the canton of Geneva.
Founders and family
Jérôme de Witt is presented by the brand as a direct descendant of European royalty, including the family of Napoleon and his brother Jérôme, King of Westphalia. This imperial story shapes the brand's look and names, such as the Blue Empire line.
DeWitt history and milestones
- 2003: founding in Geneva.
- 2005: the Academia Tourbillon Différentiel won a prize for technical innovation and complications at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève.
- Since then: the brand makes its own movements and dials in Geneva, with a team of about 60 people, and has made unique pieces for the Only Watch charity auction.
Famous DeWitt models
- Academia – the main line, including tourbillons, skeletons, "Out of Time" and "Slide" versions.
- Twenty-8-Eight – including tourbillon and skeleton tourbillon models.
- Blue Empire and Lady Pressy.
- Concept Watch N°3: X-Watch – an experimental concept piece.
Movements and technique
DeWitt makes its own movements and dials. Notable features include tourbillons with constant-force or differential systems, and a peripheral rotor for automatic winding on some models. Many cases have a gear-shaped bezel.
DeWitt today
DeWitt is a small Geneva manufacture in the high-end, complicated-watch segment. We could not verify its current ownership or production volume, so check with an authorized dealer if service or parts matter to you.
DeWitt prices on the pre-owned market
DeWitt has a small and specialized pre-owned market. Like many young high-end brands, pre-owned prices are often far below the original retail price, and finding a buyer can take time. Tourbillons and other complications draw the most interest. A full set with box and papers, proof of service and good condition make a real difference.
How to recognise a genuine DeWitt
Check that the caseback shows the DeWitt name, a reference and an individual number that match the papers. The finishing of the case, the gear-shaped bezel and the movement should be of high quality throughout. For a complicated piece, have a specialist confirm that the movement is correct for the model.
