Where the Chronorally comes from

Edox introduced the Chronorally in 2008 as a chronograph with functions first developed for rally drivers. The original could record up to twelve lap times in analog form. The name fits the brand's motorsport ties: Edox is the official timekeeper of the FIA World Rally Championship, the Dakar Rally and the FIA World Rallycross Championship, and was timing partner of the former Formula 1 team Sauber. The Chronorally is a family of large sports chronographs, not a single reference, so the first step in identifying yours is the reference number on the caseback.

Main lines of the Chronorally

Four groups of watches are well documented.

  • Quartz Chronorally: the classic version, with a big oversized chronograph pusher, a tachymeter scale and a rubber strap. The X-Treme Pilot (Ref. 38001 TINGN V3) is an example, in titanium with black PVD and Edox calibre 38s, based on a Ronda 8020.N.
  • Chronorally Sauber F1 Team 25th Anniversary Limited Edition: a 48 mm titanium quartz chronograph with big date, water resistant to 100 m, made for Sauber's 25th anniversary. Press reports put the price at 1,590 euros when it appeared. The number of pieces was not stated in the sources we checked.
  • Chronorally X-Treme Pilot Limited Edition (2020): a 48 mm titanium case, 15 mm high, water resistant to 100 m, limited to 555 pieces worldwide.
  • Chronorally Automatic: a newer line that Edox released in connection with its partnership as Official Timing Partner of BMW M Motorsport, announced in 2021.

Edox also made two quartz Chronorally chronographs with a BMW M theme as limited editions. Their reference numbers and production numbers are not given in the sources we checked, so look at the caseback and dial of your watch if you think you have one.

Case and movement

The Chronorally is big on purpose. The quartz models in the Sauber and X-Treme Pilot editions measure 48 mm, while the Chronorally Automatic has a 45 mm titanium case that is 15.8 mm high and weighs 133 grams. It has sapphire crystal on both sides, a screw-down crown and 100 m water resistance. Inside is the Edox calibre 011, based on the SW 500: automatic, 25 jewels, 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 48-hour power reserve. It shows hours, minutes, central seconds, a 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph counter and the date. Monochrome listed the Automatic at EUR 2,709 excluding tax in December 2022.

What is an Edox Chronorally worth?

We found no documented auction results for the Chronorally, so we do not quote a price record. It is a modern sports chronograph from a brand that is not in the top price tier, and most pieces trade on the pre-owned market well below the original retail price. Value depends on the exact model, whether it is a numbered limited edition, condition, and whether box, papers and the original rubber strap are present. Limited editions such as the Sauber anniversary watch and the 555-piece X-Treme Pilot are easier to place than standard models, and mechanical Automatic versions usually draw more interest than quartz ones. Titanium cases resist scratches well, but the large pusher and rubber strap show wear, so check them first.
