Krayon: origins and founding
Krayon was founded in Neuchâtel in the mid-2010s by Rémi Maillat. It began as a studio designing complications for other watch brands before presenting its own first watch, the Everywhere, in 2017.
Founders and family
Rémi Maillat is a movement designer with an engineering background. Before Krayon he worked as a movement constructor at Vaucher and then at Cartier, where he worked on complicated calibres.
Krayon history and milestones
- 2017: launch of the Everywhere, which calculates sunrise and sunset times for any place on Earth.
- 2018: the Everywhere Horizon wins the Innovation Prize at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG).
- 2020: the Anywhere, a simpler watch set to one location chosen by the owner.
- 2022: move to larger premises at Rue de l'Evole in Neuchâtel and a bigger team.
- 2025: the Anyday, presented as a mechanical agenda watch showing the whole month.
Famous Krayon models
- Everywhere: you set date, latitude, longitude and time zone, and the movement of 595 parts shows sunrise and sunset times. It was priced at 600,000 Swiss francs and limited to five pieces a year.
- Anywhere: calibre C030 with 432 parts, a 39 mm gold case and a day/night display for one location.
- Anyday: calibre C032 with a month overview around the dial.
Movements and technique
Krayon designs and builds its own movements. The calibres run at 3 Hz, and the Anywhere is hand-wound with an 86-hour power reserve. Each watch is assembled, regulated and finished by one watchmaker in Neuchâtel.
Krayon today
Krayon is independent and remains in Neuchâtel. It makes fewer than 50 watches a year and sits in the haute horlogerie segment, with prices in the six figures.
Krayon prices on the pre-owned market
Krayon watches very rarely change hands. When they do, it is mostly through specialist dealers and auction houses. Value depends on the model, the case metal, the dial version, and full documentation from the brand. Because the complications are unusual, a service history from Krayon itself matters to buyers.
How to recognise a genuine Krayon
With such small numbers, every genuine piece can be traced through the brand. Ask Krayon to confirm the serial number, and check that the movement matches the model: C030 for the Anywhere, C032 for the Anyday. For general checks, see how to spot a fake watch.
