Where the HydroConquest comes from
The HydroConquest was introduced in 2007 as Longines' diving watch. It builds on the Conquest, a name Longines first registered in 1954. Longines itself was founded in 1832 in Saint-Imier. Watch media have called the HydroConquest the brand's flagship dive watch, and it has stayed in the range ever since, in many sizes, colors and versions.
Sizes, movements and versions
The HydroConquest is a family, not a single watch. You will mainly meet these lines:
- Quartz: steel watches with the ETA-based calibre L157, offered in 39, 41 and 44 mm in earlier years.
- Automatic: the calibre L888, a Longines movement based on an ETA base, beating at 25,200 vibrations per hour with a 72-hour power reserve.
- Chronograph: introduced in 2011 in a 43 mm case with the automatic calibre L688, a column-wheel movement.
- Black ceramic: a 43 mm version from 2019 with a case made of zirconium oxide ceramic.
- GMT: a 41 mm watch with the calibre L844.5, which adds a second time zone. A redesigned version with new dial, caseback and bracelet appeared in 2023.
Most models have a 300-meter water resistance rating, a screw-down crown and caseback, and a unidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale. Early watches had aluminum bezel inserts; according to one retailer's guide, ceramic bezels have replaced them since 2018. Dials come in black, blue, green and gray, and two-tone versions with gold-colored PVD exist as well.
How to tell versions apart
Check three things. First, the movement: a quartz watch has a battery and a ticking seconds hand, an automatic has a sweeping seconds hand. Second, the case size, which you can measure across the case without the crown. Third, the reference number engraved on the caseback, which you can match against Longines documentation or your papers. If the dial, bezel or bracelet looks mismatched, the watch may have been repaired with non-original parts.
What is a Longines HydroConquest worth?
The HydroConquest is a modern, mid-priced sports watch, so values are far lower than for collector pieces. What matters most is the version (quartz, automatic, chronograph, GMT or ceramic), the condition of bezel and bracelet, service history, and whether the box and papers are present. Automatic and chronograph models usually sit above quartz ones in the same size. We found no documented auction results for the HydroConquest, so we do not quote any record prices.
