Where the name PRX comes from
Tissot first made the PRX in 1978. It was a slim quartz watch with a flat, faceted case and an integrated bracelet of wide horizontal links, made in the sports-luxury style of the 1970s. The name combines "Precise and Robust" with an X for the Roman numeral ten, which stands for 10 bar (100 meters) of water resistance. The original faded from view in the 1980s and Tissot revived it in 2021.
The PRX generations
Since the revival Tissot has built the PRX in several versions. The main steps are below, with the model's own name and case size as the easiest way to tell them apart.
| Series | Years | References | Case | Movement |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original PRX | 1978 | – | slim, faceted case with integrated bracelet | Quartz |
| PRX quartz | from February 2021 | – | 40 mm, 316L steel | Quartz, ETA F06.115 |
| PRX Powermatic 80 | from 2021 | – | 40 mm, later also 35 mm (2023) | Automatic Powermatic 80, up to 80 hours |
| PRX Automatic Chronograph | from 2022 | – | 42 mm steel | Automatic, Valjoux-based, 60 hours |
Tissot began with a 40 mm quartz model in February 2021 and added the Powermatic 80 automatic later that year. A 42 mm automatic chronograph followed in 2022, and 35 mm models arrived in 2023. In November 2025 Tissot announced a 38 mm PRX in Damascus steel and titanium versions.
Technique and notable versions
The automatic PRX uses the Powermatic 80, which is built on the ETA 2824 architecture with updates exclusive to the Swatch Group. Its beat rate is lowered from 28,800 to 21,600 vibrations per hour, which gives a power reserve of up to 80 hours. Tissot also describes a Nivachron balance spring in it for better magnetic resistance. The quartz models use the ETA F06.115.
- PRX quartz, 40 mm: the entry model, in stainless steel with a date.
- PRX Powermatic 80, 40 mm: steel case with an integrated bracelet, sapphire display caseback and a textured dial.
- PRX Powermatic 80, 35 mm: a smaller case with a waffle-pattern dial, 10.9 mm thick.
- PRX Automatic Chronograph, 42 mm: a Valjoux-based movement seen through a sapphire caseback.
- PRX Digital: a quartz model with a digital display, inspired by the 1970s Tissot Stratos.
There are also steel versions with yellow gold PVD coating and a number of themed and special editions.
What is a Tissot PRX worth?
The PRX is a current, affordable Swiss watch, so its pre-owned value follows the new price. When the 35 mm Powermatic 80 launched in 2023 it listed at $695 in steel, and the 40 mm automatic was listed at about £565 to £590 in the UK, while the chronograph was listed at £1,500. Used watches normally sell below the price of a new one. Several things drive the price: the version (quartz, automatic, chronograph or special edition), the size, the dial, the condition of the case and bracelet, and whether box, papers and extra bracelet links are included. Special editions can sit above the normal models. We found no documented auction results for the PRX and will not quote any.
